Because as a children’s author,  I vow to preserve and protect the letter E

Imagine a nation where Evil Es lay siege.

Where groups of human beings

are Excluded and Erased.

A nation where books, their authors,

and their defenders,

including librarians and teachers,

are Excoriated and Eradicated.

(Those Evil Es run in packs, just like bullies.)

Imagine a nation where

Excluded and Exposed children

believe they’re better off dead

than being humiliated or living a lie.

Scratch that. No imagination needed.

We’re waging battles

against these Evil Es right now.

Let’s go one step further.

Imagine a nation

where dictionaries or books

that include the word Empathy

are burned.

That’s our dystopian future,

Unless…

The Good Es win.

Good Es lead with Empathy.

The strongest, most loyal,

understanding of all Es,

placed carefully,

intentionally,

within the pages of children’s books.

Stories where kids feel seen.

And understood.

And safe.

And loved.

There’s no place for banning books

like these.

Books that offer up the very best of Es—

Encouragement, Education,

Enthusiasm, Exploration.

A world of possibilities.

Kamala Harris and Tim Walz

side with the Good Es.

The Good Eggs.

They’re people who read books,

not ban them.

They’re people who love kids,

unconditionally, no matter their pronouns,

whatever their dreams.

Their policies and actions

show their true beliefs:

No book,

no human being,

should ever be Erased.

Every child deserves to be Embraced.
